Pregnant and postpartum women with OUD face fragmented and siloed health care, systemic barriers, stigma and multifaceted challenges, which contribute to adverse outcomes and significant negative consequences for individuals and society. Methadone is an essential component of Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) treatment, with substantial evidence highlighting its benefits for maternal-and-fetal-health. This webinar will discuss emerging evidence of rapid and split dose methadone initiation for perinatal patients in the hospital setting, and the utility of offering whole person approach and linkage to follow up OTP care.

This webinar will outline the clinical reasoning, team-based strategies and patient-centered approaches that support engagement across the perinatal continuum, with an emphasis on MOUD management, mental health treatment, trauma-informed care and child welfare planning.

Designed specifically for peer professionals and related helpers, this 90-minute webinar focuses on effective ways to support individuals engaged in treatment for opioid, stimulant, and other substance use disorders. Participants will explore the unique role of peer-based support, including how to build trust, encourage treatment engagement, reinforce recovery goals, and navigate boundaries while working alongside clinical providers. Attendees will explore negative biases and myths regarding individuals treated with medications for opioid use disorder. Practical tools and real-world scenarios will help attendees strengthen their skills in supporting sustained engagement and long-term recovery outcomes.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, in 2019, only 10% of adults in the U.S with any substance use disorder (SUD) received treatment in part because effective evidence-based treatments for SUDs can be difficult to access in many communities.  CCBHCs help address this issue, delivering easily accessible and effective outpatient behavioral health care and SUD treatment through activities including expanded operating hours, same-day and walk-in appointments, outreach to sidelined populations and moving service delivery beyond clinic walls to reach people in their homes and in the community.

This session provides a comprehensive overview of the interprofessional team approach to substance use disorder (SUD) treatment. It emphasizes the importance of collaboration among a variety of professionals to address the complex needs of individuals in recovery. This case-based discussion will define interprofessional collaboration, explore the unique contributions of peer specialists, and discuss available evidence-based non-pharmacologic treatments. Participants will also learn about holistic approaches to recovery, which address the mind, body, and spirit. The session will provide practical strategies and resources for building and sustaining effective interprofessional teams, promoting optimal outcomes for individuals with SUD.

Over 2.5 million adults in the U.S. are diagnosed with OUD. In 2022, 12.7% of ED visits involved opioids. Yet only 25% of those who need treatment receive recommended MOUD. MOUDs are highly effective treatments that have been shown to decrease opioid use, cravings and transmission of infectious disease, and to increase retention in treatment. As the opioid epidemic continues to impact people across the U.S., the ED represents a critical access point to the health care system, supporting people with OUD by initiating MOUD, such as buprenorphine, and connecting them to low-threshold, easy-to-access care for continued treatment.
