Webinar Description:

The treatment of opioid use disorder in rural communities can be complex due to transportation, connectivity, and other barriers. While telemedicine can help overcome some of these challenges, it also presents additional obstacles. This presentation will review the challenges associated with treating opioid use disorder in rural areas. It will explore the advantages and disadvantages of using telemedicine, the difficulties in obtaining urine toxicology screenings, and why this may not be a significant problem.

Educational Objectives:

  • List the benefits and pitfalls of the use of telemedicine to treat OUD.
  • Implement strategies to maximize the benefit of a telemedicine visit.
  • Create processes in your practice to allow for individualized treatment of patients with OUD that includes in-person and telemedicine depending upon the needs of your patient population.
  • Identify items of informed consent and etiquette for telemedicine visits with patients.
