Webinar Description: The purpose of this presentation is to present the findings from a narrative literature review that was conducted to understand nurses’ practices with persons with opioid use disorder (OUD). Nurses are a sizable portion of the health care workforce; therefore, understanding their unique, disciplinary contributions for people with OUD is important. Twenty-one studies were included in the review and most were non-experimental and conducted in Europe and North America. Nurses’ practices were described with various levels of specificity but aligned well with the scopes of practice of the American Nurses Society and the International Nurses Society on Addictions.

Educational Objectives:

  • Discuss the methods used for conducting this synthesis research
  • Analyze professional scope of practice standards for nurses’ work with people with opioid use disorder
  • Summarize at least two findings from the review
