Social and family support are predictors of treatment retention, sustained recovery, and improved quality of life for persons with substance use disorder. Yet, family members are not engaged in addiction treatment settings to improve their health or that of their loved ones. It is important for addiction care teams to understand how information and education provided to family members can impact the course of a loved one’s treatment and recovery.
