Target Audience: This activity is designed for social worker educators and practitioners. This activity is accredited for social workers.
Webinar Description: This interactive webinar explores harm reduction as applied to social work practice with substance use and misuse across all systems levels. Discussion begins with the tenets of harm reduction and social work values, the language we use to talk about substance use and misuse, as well as examples of harm reduction in practice (like New York City’s overdose prevention sites). Some tools for incorporating harm reduction in everyday practice are shared. Then, we check in with ourselves about acceptance, ambivalence, and resistance to harm reduction-based practice in our clinical work, our communities, and our systems and collaborate on ideas for implementation of harm reduction in social work and in our daily lives.
Educational Objectives:
- Identify the tenets of harm reduction in social work practice with substance use and misuse
- Compare tenets of harm reduction with social work values
- Integrate a harm reduction lens into your social work practice and beyond
