Webinar Description: The history of pain management in the US is fraught with changes in practice and finding new and more holistic ways to work with individuals with chronic pain for social workers and other non-prescriber providers.  In this webinar, learn about the history of pain management, how to assess risk of developing opioid use disorders, health promotion factors for people who use opioids, including overdose reversal, and macro approaches to the risks of substance misuse.

Educational Objectives:

  • Understand the three phases of policies and practices regarding pain management in the US as well as risk for drug overdose death
  • Practice a risk assessment for opioid use disorder for individuals prior to starting opioid use
  • Familiarize yourself with withdrawal tools for opioid withdrawal (Clinical Opioid Withdrawal Scale)
  • Develop awareness of social workers role in behavioral strategies being implemented for individuals with pain management and/or opioid use disorders

Accreditation Statement:

Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), provider #1163, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program.
