SAMHSA’s Office of the Chief Medical Officer will host a webinar on the topic of Cannabis Use: An Examination of National Trends and Protective Strategies for Youth and Young Adults. The presentation will be led by Rear Admiral Christopher Jones, PharmD, DrPH, MPH, Director, Center for Substance Abuse Prevention and Kevin Sabet, Ph.D., Drug Policy Scholar. Rear Admiral Jones and Dr. Sabet will discuss the latest epidemiological trends in marijuana use highlighting treatment admissions and emergency department visits (with a particular focus on youth and young adults), the changing policy landscape including the potential negative impacts of state legalization, and effective protective strategies for youth and young adults. The webinar will also spotlight SAM’s (Smart Approaches to Marijuana) ongoing activities and initiatives to address the harmful effects of cannabis use. This session will provide important insights for substance use, mental health, and physical health professionals as well as community leaders and stakeholders. The webinar is open to all, but registration is required.
