About the webinar: This webinar provides nurses who spend time trying to encourage patients to consider healthy behavior change an overview of motivational interviewing. Tools to initiate a patient-practitioner conversation around behavior change are introduced. Motivational interviewing (MI) is a clinical method for helping people to resolve ambivalence about change by helping them find their own reasons for motivation and commitment to change. A sequence of skills to begin to develop the techniques of MI are offered. Nurses participating in this session are encouraged to practice these skills to develop greater proficiency in this technique. Specific examples relevant to pain management are described.
